Batajnica: crimes against the Albanians in 1999

About

Based on data collected in court and investigative proceedings before domestic and international bodies, the Centre for Public History is organizing a tour to the Belgrade settlement of 13. maj, where the base of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit of the Serbian Ministry of the Interior is located and where secret mass graves of Albanian civilians killed by Serb forces during the Kosovo war were located. During the tour, we will talk about crimes against civilians in Kosovo, organized action of the Serbian authorities to cover up crimes, mass graves on the territory of Serbia and a specific location in the settlement of 13 maj, where most mass graves were found.

Where

The tour takes place in the settlement of 13. maj near Batajnica, some 10km from center of Belgrade. It starts from the bus stop on Zeleni venac, where we will catch public bus and after 30 minutes we will be on the outskirts of 13. maj settlement. We will go along the road leading to the base, which was used by trucks carrying bodies of the victims, and will reach the base (entry into the base and access to the location of the mass graves is not possible). We will then head to a nearby church that was erected on the initiative and with the help of a special police unit stationed at the base. After that, we return to the center of Belgrade, where the tour ends.
