Sites of Memory in Serbia II

Memorialisation in Serbia - Mapping of the Places of Remembrance is a research project in which a team of researchers from the Centre for Public History, together with local coordinators from 10 cities in Serbia, during 2020/21. will map marked and unmarked places of remembrance of the 1990s. The project is part of a broader CPH programme that plans to research and map both the existing memorials in Serbian cities and towns that speak of the conflicts of the 1990s and those "forgotten" and "suppressed" memories that are not part of the official remembrance politics (anti-war movements and resistance to war, forced conscription, camps in Serbia ...). At this stage, the mapping will be carried out in Belgrade, Šid, Užice, Pančevo, Priboj, Novi Pazar, Niš, Sombor, Prijepolje and Kraljevo. The project also includes the organisation of a training module for local coordinators on the culture of remembrance and dealing with the past, as well as local public guided tours of the mapped locations for citizens and the final event in Belgrade where the research will be presented. All data on mapped locations, along with the supporting documentation, photographs, interviews and an interactive map, will be published on the project website during 2021.
