Mapping the Holocaust

In 2019-2020, the Centre for Public History’s team has carried out a research project on the camps for Jews and Roma in Serbia during World War II - Mapping the Holocaust: Places Of Remembrance in Serbia. A total of 9 locations have been mapped (Banjica, Topovske Šupe, Sajmište, Novi Bečej, Zrenjanin, Šabac, Niš, Subotica and Bor) and presented online through archival documents, contemporary photographs and accompanying historical texts.  As part of the activities, a school exhibition on the Holocaust has been developed, which will tour 7 schools in Serbia. The opening of the first exhibition was organized on 2 March at the First Belgrade Grammar School, and in late March in Novi Bečej. Due to the epydemic of Covid 19 the openings in Trstenik, Bor, Lazarevac, the Belgrade Railway Technical School and Šabac have been postponed. Along with the exhibition, an accompanying publication on the camps has been prepared.
